DEQ's Energy Group is dedicated to ensuring a sustainable energy future for the citizens of North Carolina. We provide services and technical expertise focused on energy efficiency in the public sector, encourage the growth and development of the state’s energy economy with the goal of making North Carolina a leader in the creation of energy jobs. We also work to increase the use of renewable energy, alternative fuels and energy efficiency throughout the state, serving as the principal source of information for these energy areas. In addition, the group provides staffing for the state Energy Policy Council.
North Carolina has more than 64 million acres of federal Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) acreage – the most on the east coast. The waters off our coast hold great energy potential for oil and gas as well as renewable energy development. Safe, responsible OCS development would create thousands of jobs in onshore, offshore, infrastructure and support industries.
