Free volunteer management workshop to be held in February

A free workshop is being offered on Thursday, Feb. 16 by the North Carolina National Estuarine Research Reserve’s Coastal Training Program.

The workshop is titled, “Working with Volunteers: Sharing volunteer management experiences in natural resource protection.” During this workshop, participants will:

  • Share successes and lessons learned in volunteer management efforts related to natural resource protection;
  • Network with other organizations that manage volunteers for increased program capacity; and
  • Learn about other organizations’ volunteer needs to help build volunteer networks.

Speakers work with a range of organizations that manage volunteers, including the N.C. Aquarium at Fort Fisher, the North Carolina Coastal Federation, and the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission’s Sea Turtle Monitoring Program. A panel of volunteers will share experiences and discussion sessions will cover hands-on management of volunteers and explain how engagement strategies can develop and maintain a volunteer base.

The workshop will run from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the New Hanover County Government Complex, 230 Government Center Drive, Human Resources Suite 135 in Wilmington.
