Public meeting on work to address asbestos contamination at Davidson Depot

-

The N.C. Department of Environmental Quality, or DEQ, is inviting people to a public meeting about the state-directed work to address asbestos contamination at Metrolina Warehouses, LLC, 301 Depot St. in Davidson. Representatives from DEQ and the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services will answer questions about the assessment and cleanup of the contamination.

At DEQ’s request, the Environmental Protection Agency tested material at the site, determined it was asbestos, oversaw its removal, and tested soils for asbestos at homes near the Metrolina Warehouses site. The property owner also put in place immediate measures to prevent erosion from the property, at the state’s request. Officials will use the meeting to discuss additional measures that will be taken by the owner to stabilize and cover the embankment where the erosion occurred.
