The Clean Energy and Energy Efficiency subcommittee of the Energy Policy Council met at the Green Square Building in Raleigh.

July 19, 2016
The N.C. Energy Policy Council met at the William G. Ross Environmental Conference Center in Raleigh. Kevin O’Donnell, president of Nova Energy Consultants, presented on the fundamentals of rate base regulation and how policies affect electric power rates. The council heard from a panel of business representatives from across the state to learn how they are affected by energy policies, identify the energy issues most important to their success and address the energy opportunities and challenges they are facing. The panel included representatives from Schneider-Electric, New Belgium Brewery, Novozymes, Smithfield Foods, VF Corporation, Gerdau Long Steel North America and Pfizer.

Two subcommittees of the Energy Policy Council had a combined meeting prior to the council meeting. The Clean Energy and Energy Efficiency subcommittee and the Energy Infrastructure and Emergency Energy subcommittee heard about the ratemaking process from Chris Ayers, executive director of the N.C. Utilities Commission Public Staff.

The N.C. Energy Policy Council met at the William G. Ross Environmental Conference Center in Raleigh. Four experts in electric power infrastructure protection spoke to the council on potential threats to grid security and strategies to strengthen energy assurance.

  • Dr. George Baker, Professor Emeritus, James Madison University and senior staff member on the 2002-2008 Congressional Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) Commission.
  • Dr. Andrew Phillips, Technical Director of Transmission and Substations Area, Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI).
  • Jack Anderson, Senior Analyst, National Protection & Programs Directorate, Office of Infrastructure Protection, U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
  • Nelson Peeler, Vice President of Transmission System Operations, Duke Energy

March 16, 2016
The N.C. Energy Policy Council met at the William G. Ross Environmental Conference Center in Raleigh. Kenny Habul, CEO of SunEnergy1, presented about his experience as a solar developer and the future of the solar industry. Lt. Governor Dan Forest, chair of the council, requested additional information from Mr. Habul as a follow up to his presentation.
