The North Carolina Energy Policy Council will meet Wednesday in Raleigh to consider adopting policies and goals to improve energy infrastructure that will be incorporated into its planning and reporting cycle.
The council will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the William G. Ross, Jr. Conference Center on the 4th Floor of the Nature Research Center, 121 West Jones St. The council will hear from key legislative stakeholders on how this year’s major energy bill known as House Bill 589 was negotiated and how it should be implemented. The council also will establish and assign members to its various committees. The council expects to adjourn at noon.
The N.C. Energy Policy Council advises and makes recommendations to the governor and General Assembly on increasing domestic energy exploration, development and production within the state to promote economic growth and job creation. It also serves as the central energy policy planning body for the state. The council is located in the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality.
The department will host a forum before the Energy Policy Council meets. forum will start at 8 a.m. Wednesday in the William G. Ross, Jr. Conference Center on the 4th Floor of the Nature Research Center, 121 West Jones St. forum will consist of a series of short TED-style talks and interactive smartphone surveys on energy issues related to establishing a reliable energy grid and energy infrastructure. Topics will include electric and autonomous vehicles, the water-energy connection, micro-grids, smart grids, rural broadband, energy storage and renewable energy.
A compilation of the forum’s survey results will be shared with the council and additional presentations will be given during the Energy Policy Council’s meeting.
