RELEASE: Public meeting and public hearing on Align biogas project rescheduled for November 16, comment period extended
The N.C. Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Air Quality (DAQ) will host a public meeting followed by a public hearing on Monday, November 16, 2020 on a draft permit for Align RNG, LLC. Members of the public are invited to attend online or by phone and provide their comments on the proposed air permit. The hearing was previously scheduled for October 20. The comment period has been extended through November 20.

State recreational water quality officials today are alerting the public that initial testing at a sound-side site in Carteret County showed levels of bacteria exceeding the state’s and Environmental Protection Agency’s recreational water quality swimming standards.

Civil Penalty assessed for B&L Farms Lagoon Breach
The N.C. Department of Environmental Quality Division of Water Resources (DWR) issued the owner of B&L Farms a civil penalty assessment totaling more than $87,000. This is in response to the June 12 animal waste lagoon breach, which released an estimated three million gallons of animal waste in Sampson County.
DEQ issues Notice of Violation to Colonial Pipeline for massive gasoline spill in Huntersville
RALEIGH – The N.C. Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Waste Management issued a notice of violation to Colonial Pipeline for impacts to groundwater quality due to a 273,000-gallon gasoline spill on August 14 in Huntersville. The pipeline has been repaired, and cleanup efforts are underway with oversight by DEQ.
