N.C. Coastal Resources Commission to conduct special meeting Dec. 8


RALEIGH – The N.C. Coastal Resources Commission will conduct a special meeting by conference call at 11 a.m. Dec. 8 at the Division of Coastal Management’s Wilmington District Office, 127 Cardinal Dr. Ext., Wilmington, N.C. The purpose of the meeting is to consider a variance request from the North Carolina State Ports Authority. Members of the public can listen to the meeting via conference call at division offices in Wilmington, Morehead City, Elizabeth City, and Washington.

The Ports Authority is proposing to relocate the current liquid bulk pier at the Wilmington port facility, and also dredge additional area to expand the width of the existing turning basin from the current 1200 feet to approximately 1400 feet to accommodate larger vessels. The Authority is requesting a variance from the CRC’s rules in order to conduct new dredging in a Primary Nursery Area adjacent to the Cape Fear River.
