Public Comment Period Opens: Duke Energy's Mayo & Roxboro Draft Wastewater Permits

PUBLIC NOTICE
N.C. DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY INTENT TO ISSUE NPDES WASTEWATER DISCHARGE PERMIT #NC0038377 Mayo Steam Electric Generating Plant and #NC0003425 Roxboro Steam Electric Generating Station

Public comment on the draft permit renewal is invited. All comments received by Feb. 22, 2017 will be considered in the final determination regarding permit issuance and permit provisions.

PERMIT APPLICATION
Duke Energy Carolinas LLC, P.O. Box 1006, Charlotte, N.C., has applied for a NPDES permit to discharge wastewater from each of the following power plants:

  • Mayo Steam Electric Generating Plant, 10660 Boston Rd., Roxboro, N.C., Person County. The facility discharges to Mayo Reservoir in the Roanoke River basin.
  • Roxboro Steam Electric Generating Station, 1700 Dunnaway Rd., Semora, N.C., Person County. The facility discharges to Hyco Reservoir in the Roanoke River basin.

Public comment on the draft permit renewal should be mailed to: Wastewater Permitting, Attn: Mayo Permit or Roxboro Permit, 1617 Mail Service Center, Raleigh, N.C., 27699-1617. Public comments may also be submitted by email to: publiccomments@ncdenr.gov. Please be sure to include “Mayo” or “Roxboro” in the email’s subject line.
