The Town of Smithfield ( 515 North Second Street, Smithfield, NC 27577) has applied for renewal of NPDES permit NC0083348 for Smithfield WTP in Johnston County. The permitted facility discharges treated filter backwash to the Buffalo Creek in the Neuse River Basin. Currently, total suspended solids, fluoride and total residual chlorine are water quality limited. The discharge may affect the future allocations in this portion of the Neuse River Basin.
