The state’s coastal agency is hosting two free workshops in September and October to share information with local governments about grant opportunities to acquire land and make improvements to beach and waterfront access, parks, and boating facilities.
The first workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. on Sept. 27 at the Vernon G. James Research & Extension Center, 207 Research Station Road in Plymouth.
A second workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. on Oct. 18 at the New Hanover County Government Complex’s Human Resources Building, 230 Government Center Dr., Room 135 in Wilmington.
“We want our coastal communities to know more about the range of funding resources available, identify which grants best fit their projects and understand how to leverage funds from multiple grant sources,” said Rachel Love-Adrick, a planner with the state’s coastal agency. “Networking with the funding agencies and learning how to effectively navigate the grant application process will help make local governments’ funding requests more successful.”
Improvements to land acquisition projects, beach and water access, parks, and boating infrastructure help to enhance the state’s valuable coastal communities. Local governments may not be aware of funding opportunities when they want to acquire land or provide improvements to infrastructure. The state hopes these meetings will help with that problem.

Both workshops will include 3.75 certification maintenance credits for the American Institute of Certified Planners.
