The N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries will hold a public hearing on five proposed shellfish leases in Carteret County at 6 p.m. on Feb. 22 at the N.C Division of Marine Fisheries Central District Office, 5285 Hwy 70 W, Morehead City.
Samuel Boyd of Morehead City has applied for a 5.04-acre shellfish bottom lease and water column lease in Newport River.
Joe Huber of Atlantic has applied for a 0.822-acre shellfish bottom lease and water column lease in Core Sound.
Robert Simons of Atlantic has applied for a 2.233-acre shellfish bottom lease in Bogue Sound.
Marshall Bennett, Agent for Good Shuck Oyster Company, has applied for a 1.9-acre shellfish bottom lease in the Newport River.
William Harris of Atlantic has applied for a 2.06-acre water column lease on a pre-existing lease in Nelson Bay.

The public may comment on the proposed leases at the meeting or in writing until 5 p.m. Feb. 21. Written comments should be submitted to the N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries, P.O. Box 769, Morehead City, N.C. 28557.
The application file and biologist report for the proposed leases are available for inspection weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries’ Headquarters Office at 3441 Arendell St. in Morehead City.
