Public Hearing: Preliminary Determination of Air Quality Permit Application for Moriah Energy Center

-

Moriah Energy Center has applied to the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality, Division of Air Quality for a new Synthetic Minor permit for a liquid natural gas storage facility located at:

6633 Helena Moriah Road
Rougemont, NC 27572
Person County

Moriah Energy Center's application was reviewed by the Division of Air Quality, Raleigh Regional Office to determine compliance with the requirements of the North Carolina Environment Management Commission air pollution regulations. The results of that review led to the preliminary determination that the project could be approved and the Division of Air Quality permit could be issued, if certain permit conditions are met.

This notice serves as a Notice of Public Hearing and Opportunity for Public Comment for this proposal. The Public Hearing will be held at Vance-Granville Community College, Civic Center Auditorium on August 1, 2024, at 6:00 PM located at 200 Community College Road in Henderson, NC 27536.

(Although DEQ’s preference is to hold a public hearing in the same county as the facility applying for a permit, the Division was unable to secure a venue with adequate space in the area. Attendance at the public hearing is not required to provide public comment. The Division is also accepting comment via email, phone and mail. )
