How DCM Uses GIS
The Division of Coastal Management has been building its GIS program since the early 1990s. Today, DCM is incorporating this technology into several programs to better understand coastal change and help support land-use planning and regulatory decision-making.
- Coastal hazards: understanding coastal change that occurs at NC’s oceanfront and inlets is useful for developing public policy that attempts to balance development needs and risks resulting from erosion. DCM studies related to coastal hazards:
