Ecological Evaluation of Utility Crossings in Restored Streams

The objective of this research was to evaluate the habitat, abundance and diversity of aquatic insects within utility right of ways (ROWs) on restoration projects. Because utility companies are authorized to maintain crossings on restoration projects, the extent of functional loss within the ROW is largely unknown.

DMS and Penrose Environmental aim to answer the question, "How much functional loss is being experienced within ROWs and what are the fundamental stream characteristics associated with this loss?" These data were used to analyze stream function related to the stream restoration that occurred within the ROW.
