Tancred Miller joined the NC Division of Coastal Management in 2003 and was named director in January 2024. Since 2009 he has been the division’s lead on resilience and adaptation. He led the division’s work building local government capacity for coastal hazards resilience through the creation of the NC Resilient Coastal Communities Program (RCCP), which provides funding and technical assistance to local governments for resilience planning and implementation. He previously managed the division’s strategic planning and land use planning programs, and the public beach and waterfront access grant program that provides funding to local governments for public access sites and facilities. He also managed the division’s rulemaking and policy development functions, bringing scientists and stakeholders together with the NC Coastal Resources Commission to continuously improve regulations governing coastal development.
Tancred holds a Master of Environmental Management from Duke University’s Nicholas School of the Environment with a concentration in Coastal Environmental Management, and a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Morehouse College.
