The public comment period on several proposed N.C. Coastal Resources Commission (CRC) temporary rules ends Feb. 1.

The CRC held public hearings Jan. 9 and Jan. 10 to receive comment on the temporary rules: 07H .0507, .0508, .0509, 07I .0702, 07J .0203, .0204, .0206, .0207, .0208, 07M .0401, .0402, .0403, .0701, .0703, .0704 and .1101. Written comments must be received or postmarked by 5 p.m. Feb. 1.

Division of Coastal Management staff will facilitate the hearings, which will be held at the below dates and locations. All hearings will be held in-person and begin at 1 p.m., with registration beginning at 12:30 p.m.
The N.C. Coastal Reserve and National Estuarine Research Reserve, a program of the Division of Coastal Management in the Department of Environmental Quality, hosted a stop on the “Discover the N.C. Coastal Reserve” Tour in early December. A guided walking tour of the Sunset Beach boardwalk and nature trail of the Reserve’s southernmost site, Bird Island Reserve, followed remarks by DEQ leadership, local, state and community leaders.

The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Coastal Management (DCM) has received more than $3 million dollars as one of 109 grants announced by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and NOAA in November. Additionally, DEQ’s Division of Marine Fisheries (DMF) was awarded more than $89,000.
The N.C. Coastal Resources Commission (CRC) will hold a specially called meeting Dec. 13 by web conference to discuss emergency and temporary rules. The meeting will be limited to this one agenda item. Members of the public may join by computer or phone.
