Some of the parameters in the permit are water quality limited. This discharge may affect future allocations in this segment of Fourth Creek." N.C. DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY INTENT TO ISSUE NPDES WASTEWATER DISCHARGE PERMIT #NC0090212

Public comment or objection to the draft permit is invited. All comments received by March 11, 2024, will be considered in the final determination regarding permit issuance and permit provisions.
PERMIT APPLICATION
Albemarle Corporation, 4250 Congress St., Suite 900, Charlotte, N.C., has applied for a New NPDES wastewater permit (NC0090212) for Kings Mountain Mine, 348 Holiday Inn Dr., Kings Mountain, Cleveland County. The facility discharges industrial wastewater and stormwater to Kings Creek in the Broad River basin. Some parameters are water quality limited. This discharge may affect future allocations in this portion of the Broad River basin. The location of Outfall 001 is: Latitude: 35012.42’70”; Longitude: 81021’19.05”.

The N.C. Wetlands Passport is a printable map and list of 240 wetlands on public lands or publicly accessible property in North Carolina – including wetlands in local, state or national parks or forests, and on state game lands. The passport, which was created by the DEQ Division of Water Resources Ecosystem Branch, is available in both English and Spanish.

The DWR Biological Assessment Branch benthic biologists have discovered new species of macroinvertebrates through their work of collecting samples of small aquatic animals that live on the bottom of streams, rivers and swamps. The biologists sample for these critters because their presence – or lack of it – is an indicator of the health and cleanliness of the water they live in.

The City of Burlington has notified the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Water Resources of elevated 1,4 dioxane levels discharged into the Haw River from the South Burlington Wastewater Treatment Plant.
