The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Water Resources will hold a hearing on Dec. 17 to hear public comment on the proposed renewal of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit for Lear Corp.’s industrial textile facility near Kenansville. The permit regulates pollutants discharged in the facility’s wastewater.

UPDATE: This public notice has been updated to change the location and start date of the public hearing, and the deadline to submit public comments. The hearing will now be held at 6 p.m. on January 16, 2025, at the Chapel Hill Town Hall. PurposeThe North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), Division of Air Quality (DAQ), hereby gives notice regarding its pre-hearing draft of the Second Ten-Year Maintenance Plan for The Charlotte-Gastonia-Salisbury, North Carolina Maintenance Area for the 2008 8-Hour Ozone National Ambient Air Quality Standard (NAAQS). 

NOTE: The public hearing noticed below has been canceled because the Division did not receive a request to hold a public hearing before the Dec. 13 deadline to submit a request. Comments on the Exceptional Events demonstration will continue to be accepted through Dec. 20. 

The Marine Fisheries Commission is scheduled to meet November 20-22, 2024 at the Islander Hotel and Resort in Emerald Isle, North Carolina.

The Environmental Management Commission (EMC) is accepting public comment on proposed amendments to rules governing wastewater capacity for treatment plants and new dwelling units, as required by laws passed by the N.C. General Assembly in 2023.

The Division of Air Quality's Outside Involvement Committee is a stakeholder group that includes DAQ staff, the regulated community, environmental groups and the public. The group meets quarterly to provide an opportunity for attendees to ask questions of DAQ staff and management on a wide range of air quality issues and processes. Staff will also provide updates on key changes or issues affecting the division.

The North Carolina Environmental Management Commission will meet Nov. 13-14 in the Ground Floor Hearing Room of the Archdale Building in Raleigh. Members of the public may attend in-person or join the meeting by computer or phone.
