Notice of federal consistency review for wind energy leasing

The N.C. Dept. of Environmental Quality, Division of Coastal Management (DCM) hereby gives notice that public review and comment is invited on a proposed federal action.

The US Department of Interior, Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, is proposing to issue wind energy leases within the Kitty Hawk Wind Energy Area. The leases would allow site assessment activities that would determine whether the leased sites are suitable for, and would support, commercial-scale wind energy production. Site assessment activities would be conducted over a 5-year period between 2017 and 2022. A more thorough description of the proposed project may be examined or copied at DCM’s office in Morehead City or at: http://tinyurl.com/jdrf2fg

DCM is evaluating whether the proposed federal action is consistent with the enforceable policies of the State’s Coastal Management Program. To assist in this evaluation, DCM is inviting the public to offer comments on the consistency of the proposed project with the State’s enforceable policies.

Please submit written comments by 09/27/2016 to Daniel Govoni, DCM Policy Analyst, 400 Commerce Avenue, Morehead City, NC 28557, or by email to Daniel.Govoni@ncdenr.gov. Comments will be considered in developing the state’s consistency response. Notice of the decision regarding this matter will be provided upon request.
