Notice of Intent to Issue a NPDES Wastewater Permit NC0004979 Allen Steam Station

The North Carolina Environmental Management Commission proposes to issue a NPDES wastewater discharge permit to the person(s) listed below.  Written comments regarding the proposed permit will be accepted until 30 days after the publish date of this notice. The Director of the NC Division of Water Resources (DWR) may hold a public hearing should there be a significant degree of public interest. Please mail comments and/or information requests to DWR at the above address. Interested persons may visit the DWR at 512 N. Box 1006, Charlotte, NC 28201 has applied for a Major Modification of its NPDES discharge permit for Allen Steam Station (permit number NC0004979) in Gaston County discharging to the Catawba River in the Catawba River Basin. The facility requested extension of the FGD compliance deadline until 11/01/2020 due to the latest EPA changes to 40 CFR 423.  This permitted facility discharges MGD treated industrial wastewater to Catawba River in the Catawba River Basin.  Currently pH and Silver are water quality limited.  This discharge may affect future allocations in this portion of the Catawba River Basin.
