H.F. Lee Energy Complex Permit # NC0003417 Public Comment Period Begins

N.C. DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY INTENT TO ISSUE NPDES WASTEWATER DISCHARGE PERMIT #NC0003417

Public comment or objection to the draft permit modification is invited. All comments received by May 6, 2019 will be considered in the final determination regarding permit issuance and permit provisions.

PERMIT APPLICATION

Duke Energy Progress, LLC has applied for a renewal of its NPDES wastewater permit (NC0003417) for the H.F. Lee Energy Complex, 1199 Black Jack Church Road, Goldsboro, NC 27530, Wayne County. The current permit includes three NPDES permitted Outfalls: 001–Ash pond; 002 – Cooling Pond; and 003-Miscellaneous. Two new outfalls will be added to the permit: Outfall 002A for the emergency and maintenance discharge from the Cooling Pond and Outfall 004 for the wastewaters generated from the future coal ash beneficiation plant. The facility discharges treated industrial wastewater from all outfalls to the Neuse River in the Neuse River Basin. This discharge may affect future allocations in this portion of the Neuse River Basin. The draft wastewater permit and related documents are available online at: https://goo.gl/3WtzMF. The public comment period on the draft permit ends 30-days from publish date.
