Town of Spruce Pine [PO Box 189, Spruce Pine, NC 28777-0189] has requested renewal of permit NC0082767 for its WTP in Mitchell County. This permitted facility may discharge treated filter backwash wastewater to an unnamed tributary to Beaver Creek in the French Broad River Basin. This permit serves as back up for any future discharge as the current discharge is tributary to the local WWTP (i.e., currently no discharge to waters of the state). Currently total residual chlorine is water quality limited. This discharge may affect future allocations in this segment of the receiving stream. (A Public Notice ad will run in the Mitchell News-Journal on 3/31/21).
