Public Comment Period Closes: Duke Energy's Belews Creek Plant Draft Wastewater & Stormwater Permits

PUBLIC NOTICE: N.C. DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY INTENT TO ISSUE NPDES WASTEWATER PERMIT #NC0024406 AND NPDES STORMWATER PERMIT #NCS000573. Public comment or objection to the draft permits is invited. All comments received by Nov. 15, 2016 will be considered in the final determination regarding permit issuance and permit provisions.

PERMIT APPLICATIONS: Duke Energy Carolinas LLC, P.O. Box 1006, Charlotte, N.C., has applied for NPDES permits to discharge wastewater and stormwater from the Belews Creek Steam Station, 3195 Pine Hall Rd., Belews Creek, Stokes County, N.C. The facility discharges to the Dan River, Belews Lake and Charlie’s Pond in the Roanoke River basin

IMPORTANT: Depending on which permit(s) you are commenting on, be sure to include either “Belews SW” or “Belews WW” in the email’s subject line when submitting comments electronically.

PUBLIC HEARING: The N.C. Department of Environmental Quality will hold a public hearing to accept comments on the aforementioned permits at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15 at the Stokes County Courthouse, 1012 Main St., Danbury, N.C. Speaker registration will begin at 5 p.m.
