Public Hearing: Alamance Aggregates Mining Permit

The N.C. Department of Environmental Quality is seeking community feedback on Alamance Aggregates LLC’s application for a mining permit for a crushed stone operation to be located off Clark Road in Alamance County. The public is invited to submit comments on the permit application at a public hearing planned for 7 p.m. Dec. 5 at Sylvan Elementary School, 7718 Sylvan Road in Snow Camp, N.C. Speaker registration will begin at 6:30 p.m.

The state Mining Act details the seven criteria under which a mining permit may be denied. A copy of the law and its 2017 revisions are available on the DEQ website at: https://bit.ly/2Q6dk83. Public comments that address one or more of the seven criteria are most helpful and will be used in making a final determination on issuance of the permit.

Copies of the mining permit application and related maps are available for public review at the department’s Winston-Salem Regional Office and the Mining Program Central Office located on the fifth floor of the Archdale Building in Raleigh. The permit application and related maps are also available online at: https://edocs.deq.nc.gov/WaterResources/Browse.aspx?dbid=0&startid=769819.
