PUBLIC HEARING ON CHEMOURS DRAFT NPDES WASTEWATER DISCHARGE PERMIT #NC0090042

PERMIT APPLICATION

The Chemours Company FC, LLC has applied for a new NPDES wastewater permit (NC0090042) for the Chemours Company – Fayetteville Works, 22828 NC Highway 87 West; Fayetteville, NC, Bladen County. The facility will primarily discharge treated groundwater and some surface water and stormwater to Cape Fear River in the Cape Fear River basin. Some of the parameters are water quality limited. This discharge may affect future allocations in this portion of the Cape Fear River basin. The location of the Outfall is: Latitude: 34050’18”; Longitude: 78049’17”.

Public hearings will be held on June 21, 2022 and June 23, 2022 for public comment. Written comments will be accepted through June 24, 2022, at 5 p.m. and will be considered in the final determination regarding permit issuance and permit provisions.

The draft wastewater permit and related documents are available online at: https://deq.nc.gov/public-notices-hearings. Printed copies of the draft permit and related documents may be reviewed at the department’s Fayetteville Regional Office or the Wilmington Regional Office. To make an appointment to review the documents, please call 910-433-3300 for Fayetteville and 910-796-7215 for Wilmington and ask for a Water Quality Regional Operations Supervisor.

Public comment on the draft permit may be mailed to: Wastewater Permitting, Attn: Chemours Permit, 1617 Mail Service Center, Raleigh, N.C., 27699-1617 and post-marked no later than June 24, 2022.  Public comments may also be submitted by email to: publiccomments@ncdenr.gov. Please include “Chemours” in the email subject line. Comments will be accepted via email through June 24, 2022, 5 p.m.

PUBLIC HEARINGS

To give all affected communities the opportunity to comment, two public hearings will be held for this draft permit, one will be in person, and one held remotely.
