MEDIA ADVISORY: State to host public meeting on Riverbend Steam Station risk classification

WHAT: Public meeting on the draft proposed coal ash risk classification for Riverbend Steam Station.

WHEN: 6 p.m. March. 1

WHERE: Gaston College Myers Center Auditorium, 201 Highway U.S. 321 S Dallas, NC 28034.

The N.C. Department of Environmental Quality will hold a public meeting Tuesday to receive public comments on the draft proposed coal ash risk classification for the Riverbend Steam Station. 

In accordance with the coal ash law, the facility has received a high-risk classification which is not subject to change.  

The draft proposed coal ash risk classifications and related documents are available online at: http://deq.nc.gov/news/hot-topics/coal-ash-nc/draft-classifications

Printed copies of the draft proposed coal ash risk classification document may be reviewed at the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library - Mountain Island, 4420 Hoyt Galvin Way, Charlotte, NC 28214.

Public comments on the draft permit modification should be mailed to: N.C. Division of Water Resources, Groundwater Protection Section, N.C. Department of Environmental Quality, Attn: Debra Watts, 1636 Mail Service Center, Raleigh, NC 27699-1611

The public comment period for the Riverbend Steam Station risk classification ends April 18.
