The North Carolina Coastal Resources Commission will meet May 10-11 at the Dare County Government Complex, 954 Marshall C. Collins Dr., in Manteo, N.C. The meeting will begin at 2 p.m. on May 10 and 9 a.m. on May 11. The meeting is open to the public.
Items on the commission’s agenda include:
- Rule Development – The commission will discuss potential rule amendments that could allow multi-family oceanfront structures (up to 10,000 square feet) to be rebuilt in their current locations should they be destroyed. The commission will also discuss the use of geotextile tubes for temporary erosion control and proposed amendments to rules governing sandbag structures.
- Legislative Studies Update – State coastal agency staff will provide an update on three study reports recently delivered to the N.C. General Assembly regarding beach erosion, oyster restoration permitting, and a proposal for Cape Fear estuarine resource restoration.
- Coastal Habitat Protection Plan – The commission will hear an update on the Environmental Management Commission’s requested changes to the Coastal Habitat Protection Plan.
- Public Hearings – At 1:30 p.m. May 10, members of the public may comment on a proposed rule amendment to change the formula used to calculate the width of the Ocean Erodible Area of Environmental Concern. At 1:30 p.m. May 11, members of the public may comment on proposed rule amendments to rules governing general permits for beach bulldozing and general permits for marsh sills, and a modification to the definition of coastal wetlands.
- Public Input and Comment – Members of the public may comment on commission issues at 11:45 a.m. May 11.
The Coastal Resources Advisory Council, a group that advises the Coastal Resources Commission, will meet at 12:30 p.m. May 10 at the Dare County Government Complex.
