Six coastal reserve sites to hold Local Advisory Committee meetings in May and June

Local Advisory Committees for six coastal reserves will meet in May and June. The meetings are open to the public.

  • The Zeke’s Island Reserve Local Advisory Committee will meet at 3 p.m. May 31 at the Fort Fisher State Recreation Area Education Room, 1000 Loggerhead Road in Kure Beach.
  • The Bird Island Reserve Local Advisory Committee will meet at 2 p.m. June 1 at the UNCW Center for Marine Science, Habitat Conference Room, 5600 Marvin Moss Lane in Wilmington.
  • The Permuda Island Reserve Local Advisory Committee will meet at 10 a.m. June 7 at the North Topsail Beach City Hall, 2008 Loggerhead Court in North Topsail Beach.
  • The Bald Head Woods Reserve Local Advisory Committee will meet at 10 a.m. June 8 at the Bald Head Island Conservancy Office, 700 Federal Road in Bald Head Island.
  • The Masonboro Island Reserve Local Advisory Committee will meet at 4 p.m. June 8 at the UNCW Center for Marine Science, Habitat Conference Room, 5600 Marvin Moss Lane in Wilmington.
  • The Buckridge Reserve Local Advisory Committee will meet at 1:30 p.m. June 9 at the Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge Administrative Office, 205 South Ludington Drive in Columbia.

The committees consist of local residents, partners and leaders who provide the Division of Coastal Management’s Coastal Reserve and National Estuarine Research Reserve staff with guidance and feedback regarding management of the reserve sites.

The N.C. Coastal Reserve and National Estuarine Research Reserve Program protects natural areas for education, research and compatible recreation. Since its creation in 1989, the program has preserved more than 42,000 acres of unique coastal environments at 10 sites along the coast.
