Officials with the state environmental department have extended a public comment period and rescheduled a public hearing to obtain more feedback on the draft wastewater permit for a proposed Brunswick County water treatment plant.

Brunswick Regional Water and Sewer H2GO has applied for a National Pollution Discharge Elimination System, or NPDES, permit to discharge wastewater from a proposed reverse osmosis water treatment plant in Belville. The proposed facility will discharge to the Brunswick River in the Cape Fear River basin.

The draft wastewater permit and related documents are available online at: http://deq.nc.gov/about/divisions/water-resources/water-resources-permits/wastewater-branch/npdes-wastewater-permits. Printed copies of the draft permit and related documents may be reviewed at the department’s Wilmington Regional Office. To make an appointment to review the file, please call 910-796-7215.

Public comments on the draft permit should be mailed to: Wastewater Permitting, Attn: H2GO WTP, 1617 Mail Service Center, Raleigh, N.C., 27699-1617. Public comments may also be submitted by email to: publiccomments@ncdenr.gov. Please be sure to include “H2GO WTP” in the email’s subject line.

All comments received by the new Jan. 12, 2017 deadline will be considered in the final determination regarding permit issuance and permit provisions.

As part of the public feedback process, the state environmental agency will hold a public hearing to accept comments on the proposed draft permit. Originally planned for Dec. 7 in Bolivia, the public hearing has been rescheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017 at the Leland Cultural Arts Center, 1212 Magnolia Village Way, Leland, N.C., 28451.
