The North Carolina Coastal Resources Commission will meet at 9 a.m. Feb. 8 at the Hilton Double Tree, 2717 West Fort Macon Road in Atlantic Beach. The meeting is open to the public.
Items on the commission’s agenda include:
- Variances – The commission will hear two requests for variances from its rules.
- Fiscal Analysis Approval – The commission will consider adoption of the fiscal analysis for free standing moorings and development line procedures.
- Land Use Planning – The commission will hear presentations on the land use plans for Gates County and the town of Oak Island, planning and management grant priorities and an update on the Hyde County drainage project.
- Coastal Reserves – The commission will hear a presentation on the research being conducted by the Coastal Reserve Program.
- Beach and Inlet Management – The commission will hear presentations on the sampling methodology for sediment criteria.
- Other Various Coastal Issues – The commission will discuss an update to a sandbag variance granted in the 2015 plan.
The Coastal Resources Advisory Council, a group that advises the Coastal Resources Commission, will meet at 3:00 p.m. Feb. 7 at the Hilton Double Tree on West Fort Macon Road.

The Coastal Resources Commission establishes policies for the state’s coastal management program and adopts rules and policies regarding coastal development in North Carolina.
