State coastal commission will meet on April 26-27 in Manteo

<p>The North Carolina Coastal Resources Commission will meet April 26-27 in Manteo to discuss issues such as the living shoreline general permit, a land use plan for Perquimans County, and repairing and protecting dunes.</p>

The North Carolina Coastal Resources Commission will meet April 26-27 in Manteo to discuss issues such as the living shoreline general permit, a land use plan for Perquimans County, and repairing and protecting dunes.

The meeting will start at 1 p.m. April 26 at the Dare County Government Complex, 954 Marshall C. Collins Drive, Manteo. The meeting is open to the public.

Items on the commission’s agenda include:

  • Variance The commission will hear one request for a variance from its rules.

  • Coastal Reserves – The commission will hear a presentation on the North Carolina National Estuarine Research Reserve Management plan.

  • Land Use Planning – The commission will hear presentations on an amendment to the land use plan for Perquimans County and adoption of a new rule in the Planning and Management Grants program.

  • Estuarine Shoreline Management – The commission will hear an update on the development of the living shoreline general permit.

  • Beach and Inlet Management – The commission will hear presentations on the sampling methodology for sediment criteria and consider approval of the Figure Eight Island development line.

  • Other Various Coastal Issues – The commission will hear a presentation on dune protection, restoration and repair.

The Coastal Resources Advisory Council, a group that advises the Coastal Resources Commission, will meet at 10 a.m. April 26 at the Dare County Government Complex, 954 Marshall C. Collins Drive, Manteo.

The Coastal Resources Commission establishes policies for the state’s coastal management program and adopts rules and policies regarding coastal development in North Carolina.
