The N.C. Department of Environmental Quality directed Chemours to provide residents in Bladen, Cumberland and Robeson counties with bottled water if drinking water well sampling results show levels of GenX above the state’s provisional health goal of 140 parts per trillion.

To date, Chemours’ third-party consultant has sampled 1,000 drinking water wells approximately five-and-a-half miles from the facility. Of those wells samples, 225 have shown exceedances of the state’s provisional drinking water goal for GenX. Those 225 residences are receiving bottled water from Chemours. Sampling continues, and if additional residential wells are found to exceed the state’s provisional drinking water goal, then those residents will be provided bottled water immediately.

More information about the state’s investigation can be found at: https://deq.nc.gov/news/hot-topics/genx-investigation.
