State seeks public feedback on Belews Creek Steam Station draft consent order and permit

<p>The N.C. Department of Environmental Quality is seeking public feedback on a proposed draft special order by consent for Duke Energy&rsquo;s Belews Creek Steam Station, as well as a draft wastewater permit modification for the Stokes County facility. The public comment period for both documents opens today and will run through Jan. 25, 2019.</p>

The N.C. Department of Environmental Quality is seeking public feedback on a proposed draft special order by consent for Duke Energy’s Belews Creek Steam Station, as well as a draft wastewater permit modification for the Stokes County facility. The public comment period for both documents opens today and will run through Jan. 25, 2019.

The draft special order by consent, draft modified permit and related documents are available online at: https://bit.ly/2LkIF4K. Printed copies of the documents may be reviewed at the department’s Winston-Salem Regional Office. To make an appointment to review the documents, please call 336-776-9800

Public comments on the draft consent order or draft modified permit may be submitted by mail to: DWR-Wastewater Permitting, Attn: Belews Creek, 1617 Mail Service Center, Raleigh, N.C., 27699-1617. Public comments may also be submitted by email to: publiccomments@ncdenr.gov. Please be sure to include “Belews SOC” or “Belews Permit” in the email’s subject line.

Requests for a public hearing on the draft consent order may also be submitted to the postal or email address shown above. The director of the N.C. Division of Water Resources will consider all requests for a public hearing. If there is significant public interest in the matter, a public hearing will be held. Requests for a public hearing must also be submitted by Jan. 25, 2019.
