The North Carolina Coastal Resources Commission will meet on Feb. 27 and 28 at The History Place, 1008 Arendell Street in Morehead City.
The meeting will begin at 1:15 p.m. on Feb. 27 and is open to the public. Items on the commission’s agenda include:
- Variances – The commission will hear two requests for variances from its rules.
- Commission and interagency matters – The commission will hear presentations on the Coastal Habitat Protection Plan, a Science Panel overview and potential changes to the commission’s jurisdictional areas related to Wildlife Resources Commission actions.
- Legal updates – The commission will hear updates on litigation of interest, discuss criteria necessary to issue a variance and consider the reporting condition associated with The Riggings variance.
- Coastal Resilience Initiatives – The commission will hear presentations on the division’s coastal resilience initiatives and a national climate assessment from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
- Beach and inlet management – The commission will consider the town of Wrightsville Beach’s request to reauthorize their static vegetation line exception and consider inlet hazard area use standards.
- Other action items – The commission will consider adopting the temporary rule for the marsh sills general permit, approval of the fiscal analysis for the Surf City unvegetated beach designation and approval of the 2019 erosion rate report.
- Rule development – The commission will hear presentations on the shellfish leasing program, rules for a shellfish lease exemption, major permit renewals and amendments to the rules for the temporary structures general permit.
- Public hearing – The commission will hold a public hearing on civil penalties (15A NCAC 7J .0409) and the marsh sills general permit (15A NCAC 7H .1900).
The Coastal Resources Advisory Council, a group that advises the state Coastal Resources Commission, will also meet at 10 a.m. Feb. 27 at The History Place, 1008 Arendell Street in Morehead City.
