The N.C. Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Air Quality (DAQ) issued an administrative amendment to the air permit for the Chemours Company Fayetteville Works facility.
The permit amendment does not impact the sections of the permit dealing with the thermal oxidizer or PFAS emissions. The change is related to the applicability of the federal Major Source Boiler Maximum Achievable Control Technology (MACT) rule. One existing boiler is being reclassified as a ‘unit designed to burn gas 1’ fuel instead of a ‘unit designed to burn light liquid fuel’. Public comments on the draft permit were considered as part of the permit review.
The permit is available online at https://deq.nc.gov/chemours-permit-information.
