State officials will host a public hearing September 5 in Cashiers to gather comments on a water quality certification for Cashiers Canoe Club Development, LLC.
The 6 p.m. public hearing will be held at the Albert Carlton-Cashiers Community Library, 249 Frank Allen Road in Cashiers. People who wish to speak can start signing in at 5:30 p.m.
Cashiers Canoe Club Development, LLC is seeking the water quality certification as part of a development project which will impact more than seven acres of wetlands and more than four acres of open waters.
Gathering input at the hearing and during the comment period is an important part of the public process. Comments will be considered before a decision is made on the water quality certification.
The public is also invited to comment in writing on the application. Written comments must be received by DWR no later than 5 p.m. on Monday, October 7, 2019. Please mail written comments to: 401 Permitting, 1617 Mail Service Center, Raleigh, NC, 27699-1617. Written comments may also be submitted via email to: PublicComments@ncdenr.gov. Please include “Cashiers Canoe Club” in the email’s subject line.

The application is also available at the Division of Water Resources Asheville Regional Office located at 2090 U.S. 70 Highway in Swannanoa. Appointments must be made to view the application file between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding state holidays.
