Public Hearing Scheduled for Mountain Valley Southgate Pipeline Nov. 19

State officials will host a public hearing on November 19 in Wentworth to gather comments on the application for water quality certification submitted to the N.C. Division of Water Resources (DWR) by Mountain Valley, LLC.

The hearing will be held at the Rockingham Community College Advanced Technologies Auditorium, 215 Wrenn Memorial Road in Wentworth. The hearing begins at 6 p.m. and sign-in starts at 5 p.m.

Mountain Valley, LLC is seeking the water quality certification to install approximately 4.3 miles of 24-inch diameter pipeline, approximately 42.7 miles of 16-inch diameter pipeline, and appurtenances in Rockingham and Alamance Counties. The impact from the project will permanently impact 0.02 acres of 404 jurisdictional wetlands, and temporarily impact 17,726.29 linear feet of jurisdictional streams, 6,538 square feet of jurisdictional open waters, and 13.95 acres of 404 jurisdictional wetlands.

Gathering input on the application at the hearing and during the comment period is an important part of the public process. Comments will be considered before a decision is made on the water quality certification.

The public is also invited to comment in writing on the application. Written comments must be received by DWR no later than 5 p.m. on Friday December 20, 2019. Please list “MVP Southgate” in the email’s subject line.

The application is available online and is also available at the DWR Winston Salem Regional Office located at 450 W. Hanes Mill Rd., Winston Salem, NC and may be inspected with an appointment between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding state holidays.
