The N.C. Environmental Management Commission (EMC) will meet January 8 and 9 at the Archdale Building, 512 N. Salisbury Street in Raleigh. Committees of the commission will meet Wednesday, January 8, with the full commission meeting Thursday, January 9. All of the meetings will be held in the Ground Floor Hearing Room.
Topics to be discussed include a request to proceed to public notice with the removal of the swamp designation from a section of the Cape Fear River, a request to proceed to public hearing for the consolidation of water and sewer districts in Buncombe and Henderson counties, and a request to proceed to public hearing for rules related to the control of emissions from log fumigation operations. Other items include rule revisions requests for solid waste management facilities, construction and demolition landfill facilities, oversight by environmental consultants, and for various air quality rules. The Environmental Management Commission is responsible for adopting rules for the protection, preservation and enhancement of the state’s air, land and water resources. The commission oversees and adopts rules for several divisions of the Department of Environmental Quality, including the divisions of Air Quality; Energy, Mineral and Land Resources; Waste Management and Water Resources.
