The N.C. Coastal Resources Commission will meet Feb. 12-13 at the Beaufort Hotel, 2440 Lennoxville Rd, Beaufort, NC 28516.
The meeting will begin at 1:15 p.m. Feb. 12 and at 9 a.m. Feb. 13. A public comment period is scheduled for 11:15 a.m. Feb. 13. At the chairwoman’s discretion, comments may be limited to three minutes per person.
Prior to the commission meeting, the Coastal Resources Advisory Council will meet at 10 a.m. Feb. 12 at the same location.
Both meetings are open to the public.
Agenda items for the commission meeting include:
- Variances – The commission will hear two requests for variances from its rules:
- Shinn Creek HOA seeks to dredge in a primary nursery area in New Hanover County;
- The Town of Sunset Beach seek to dredge an area of Jinks creek deeper than connecting waters;
- Consider re-adoption of its existing development rules under the Periodic Review of Existing Rules process;
- Consider the re-authorization of Static Line Exceptions for the Towns of Carolina Beach and Ocean Isle Beach;
- Rulemaking recommendations – The commission will consider amendments to the rules concerning oceanfront setback exceptions (15A NCAC 7H .0309) as they apply to roofs over decks and fill within the setback area. The commission will also consider amendments to rules concerning Technical Standards for Beach Fill (15A NCAC 7H .0312) and to its Floating Structure Policy (15A NCAC 7M .0600) as it relates to shellfish growing practices;
- Oceanfront Rules and Implementation – The commission will discuss amendments to (15A NCAC 7H .0306 & 7J .1301) for establishment of the Development Line as well as implementation issues of its use and the Static Line Exception;
- Presentations – The commission will hear a presentation from the division of marine fisheries on rulemaking related to the Shellfish Lease Program and from the N.C. Coastal Federation on the use of floating structures associated with shellfish leases.
