Public Hearing Scheduled for Biltmore Farms, LLC Water Quality Certification

<p>State officials will host a public hearing on March 19 in Asheville to gather comments on the application for a 401 water quality certification submitted to the N.C. Division of Water Resources (DWR) from Biltmore Farms, LLC.</p>

State officials will host a public hearing on March 19 in Asheville to gather comments on the application for a 401 water quality certification submitted to the N.C. Division of Water Resources (DWR) from Biltmore Farms, LLC.

The hearing will be held at the Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College (A.B. Tech) Conference Center, located at 16 Fernihurst Drive in Asheville. The hearing begins at 6 p.m. and sign-in starts at 5:30 p.m.

Biltmore Farms, LLC is seeking the water quality certification to permanently impact 0.067 acres of 404 jurisdictional wetlands and 141 linear feet of jurisdictional stream, and to temporarily impact 116 linear feet of jurisdictional stream to construct a bridge over the French Broad River in Buncombe County.  

Gathering input on the application at the hearing and during the comment period is an important part of the public process. Comments will be considered before a decision is made on the water quality certification.

The public is also invited to comment in writing on the application. Written comments must be received by DWR no later than 5 p.m. on Monday, April 20, 2020. Please list “Biltmore Farms, LLC” in the email’s subject line.

The application is available online and is also available at the DWR Asheville Regional Office located at 2090 U.S. 70 Highway Swannanoa, NC 28778 and may be inspected with an appointment between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding state holidays.
