RALEIGH – The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) will host a community information session on Thursday, March 12 in Hope Mills. DEQ staff will provide updates on the status of current actions to prevent and remediate PFAS contamination from the Chemours Fayetteville Works Facility, including the testing of private wells and public water feasibility determinations. There will also be an opportunity for public comment.

A meeting for the Lower Cape Fear communities will be announced in March.
DEQ is also extending the comment period to April 6 on the proposed groundwater corrective action plan submitted by Chemours to address per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in groundwater at the facility. Chemours is required to reduce PFAS loading to surface water by at least 75 percent in accordance with the 2019 Consent Order. DEQ staff are currently reviewing the proposed plan and may require additional information and actions.
Public comment on the proposed plan will be accepted through April 6. DEQ will consider all comments during the review of the corrective action plan. Submit comments to publiccomments@ncdenr.gov.
