MEDIA ADVISORY: Public hearing scheduled for Pender County shellfish lease proposals

<p>The N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries will hold a public hearing by web conference on proposed shellfish leases in Pender County at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 18.</p>

The N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries will hold a public hearing by web conference on proposed shellfish leases in Pender County at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 18.

James T. Perryman, III, has applied for a 2.87-acre water column lease above an existing shellfish bottom lease in Seaside Areas near Topsail Sound.

Ghost Fleet Oyster Company, LLC (Thomas Faison, agent) has applied for a 0.90-acre shellfish bottom lease in Banks Channel.

Ghost Fleet Oyster Company, LLC (Thomas Faison, agent) has also applied for a 0.74-acre shellfish bottom and water column lease in Seaside Areas near Nixon’s Channel.

NorthBay Oyster Company, LLC (William Simmons, agent) has applied for a 5.77-acre shellfish bottom and water column lease in Bank’s Channel.

The public may participate in the hearing online or by telephone. To facilitate comments, the division is asking those who wish to speak during the meeting to pre-register here by 4 p.m. Monday, May 17.

Also, the public may comment on the proposed shellfish leases in writing. Written comments will be accepted until 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 19 and may be submitted two ways:

  1. Online Comments - Written comments will be accepted through an online form available here.
  2. Mailed Comments - Written comments may be mailed to the N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries, Shellfish Leases, P.O. Box 769, Morehead City, N.C. 28557.
