MEDIA ADVISORY: Public hearing scheduled for Onslow County shellfish lease proposals

The N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries will hold a public hearing by web conference on proposed shellfish leases in Onslow County at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27.

The N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries will hold a public hearing by web conference on proposed shellfish leases in Onslow County at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27.

Middle Sound Mariculture, LLC (James Hargrove, agent) has applied for a 5.04-acre shellfish bottom lease in the Permuda Island Bay area.

Burr McLawhorn has applied for a 4.11-acre shellfish bottom lease and water column lease in Mainland Areas near Topsail Sound.

Joshua Dunn has applied for a 3.52-acre shellfish bottom lease and water column lease in Mainland Areas near Topsail Sound.

8th Wonder Oyster Company, LLC (Robert Graham, agent) has applied for an 8.6-acre shellfish bottom lease and water column amendment in Permuda Island Bay.

White Oak Oyster Company, Inc. (Benjamin Davey, agent) has applied for a 0.69-acre shellfish bottom lease and a water column lease in Bogue Inlet.

Matthew Schwab has applied for a 3.30-acre water column lease on an existing shellfish bottom lease in the New River below the Highway 172 Bridge.

Anchored Life Oyster Farm, LLC (Holden Davanzo, agent) has applied for a 5.11-acre water column lease on an existing shellfish bottom lease in the New River below the Highway 172 Bridge.

Ghost Fleet Oyster Company, LLC (Thomas Cody Faison and Rachel Faison, agents) has applied for a 4.08-acre shellfish bottom lease and water column lease in the New River below the Highway 172 Bridge.

The public may comment on the above lease applications during the hearing. To facilitate comments, the division is asking those who wish to speak during the meeting to pre-register here by 4 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26.

The public may also comment on the proposed shellfish leases in writing. Written comments will be accepted until 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28 and may be submitted two ways:

  1. Online Comments – Written comments will be accepted through an online form available here.
  2. Mailed Comments – Written comments may be mailed to the N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries, Shellfish Leases, P.O. Box 769, Morehead City, N.C. 28557.
