The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) will hold a public hearing on Nov. 3, 2022, on the proposed Water Supply-IV Critical Area reclassification of Teer Quarry and a section of the Eno River in the Neuse River Basin. The public is invited to provide comment on the proposal at Durham Technical Community College’s Northern Durham Center, Building 1, Room 130, beginning at 6 p.m.

The commercial flounder season opens for mobile gears tomorrow, and the N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries is reminding gill net fishermen that an Estuarine Gill Net Permit (EGNP) is required to use anchored gill nets in estuarine waters.

The N.C. Marine Fisheries Commission is looking for commercial and recreational fishermen, scientists, and other interested parties to sit on various fisheries advisory committees.

The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) will hold a community information meeting on Tuesday, October 11, at Roland-Grise Middle School in Wilmington. DEQ will share updates on private well sampling underway for PFAS contamination in New Hanover, Brunswick, Columbus and Pender counties.  Staff will also answer questions from the public about the private well sampling and alternate water supplies.  When: Tuesday, October 11 at 6 p.m. Where: Roland-Grise Middle School Auditorium

The N.C. Division of Water Resources has honored 66 water treatment plants for surpassing federal and state drinking water standards in 2021. The division’s Public Water Supply Section awarded the facilities the prestigious N.C. Area Wide Optimization Award, which is part of a state effort to enhance the performance of existing surface water treatment facilities.

The N.C. Coastal Resources Commission (CRC) will meet Sept. 15 at the Holiday Inn, 5032 Market St., Wilmington. A public input and comment period is scheduled for noon. At the chair’s discretion, comments may be limited to three minutes per person. The Coastal Resources Advisory Council (CRAC) will meet at 3 p.m. on Sept. 14 at the same location. Both meetings are open to the public.

The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Air Quality (DAQ) is accepting grant applications to fund projects that will reduce emissions from diesel engines.

The State Water Infrastructure Authority will meet Wednesday, Sept. 14, at 9:00 a.m. at the Steve Troxler Agricultural Sciences Center in Raleigh. The public may listen to the meeting online or by phone.

State recreational water quality officials today lifted a water quality swimming advisory at an ocean-side site in Dare County.
