Air quality across much of eastern North Carolina is under Code Orange, Code Red or Code Purple alerts due to smoke and ash from the active wildfire in the Croatan National Forest.

The N.C. Coastal Resources Commission (CRC) will meet April 26 at the Dare County Government Complex, 954 Marshall C. Collins Drive, Manteo. A public input and comment period is scheduled for noon. At the chair’s discretion, comments may be limited to three minutes per person. The Coastal Resources Advisory Council (CRAC) will meet at 3 p.m. on April 25 at the same location. Both meetings are open to the public.

The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is accepting project solicitation forms for new lead service line replacement funding. The Division of Water Infrastructure will hold an informational webinar on May 4 to provide additional information to potential applicants.

The N.C. Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Water Resources (DWR) will hold a public hearing on May 23, 2023, for the proposed renewal of the City of Asheboro’s wastewater permit. 

The N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries will hold a public hearing on proposed shellfish leases in Carteret County at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 23. The hearing will be held in-person at the N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries’ Central District Office, 5285 Highway 70 West, Morehead City and by WebEx.

The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Coastal Management (DCM) invites communities to apply for Phase 4 of the N.C. Resilient Coastal Communities Program (RCCP), which will fund the implementation or construction of planned, prioritized, and engineered resilience projects in the 20 coastal counties. The submission deadline is April 28, 2023, by 5:00 p.m.

State environmental officials today recognized Eaton Corporation’s Raleigh facility for outstanding environmental performance. Elizabeth S. Biser, Secretary of the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), presented company officials with a plaque recognizing the facility as a 2022 Environmental Steward.
