State seeks to stop additional chemical discharges into the Cape Fear River

As part of its ongoing investigation, the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality this week urged Chemours to stop discharging two additional chemical compounds into the Cape Fear River. The compounds were identified in the company’s waste stream by a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency preliminary analysis shared with the state this week.

Division of Water Resources will host two public hearings to obtain community feedback on the Atlantic Coast Pipeline, LLC’s application for a state water quality certification and buffer authorization as required by the federal Clean Water Act and state riparian buffer rules.

DEQ verifies Chemours has stopped discharging GenX wastewater

Staff with the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality today inspected Chemours’ Fayetteville facility and verified that the company is containing wastewater from the byproduct GenX, preventing the unregulated chemical compound from discharging into the Cape Fear River.
