El Departamento de Calidad Medioambiental (DEQ, por sus siglas en ingles) de Carolina del Norte celebrará una sesión pública el 9 de mayo de 2023 para recibir comentarios y opiniones de las partes interesadas, como parte del proceso de renovación de seis permisos generales para operaciones de alimentación de animales. Los comentarios y opiniones recibidas en el evento, así como durante el período de comentarios de 60 días (hasta el 5 de junio), se tendrán en cuenta en la elaboración de los proyectos de permisos, que entrarán en vigor en el 2024.

The five advisory committees to the N.C. Marine Fisheries Commission are scheduled to meet in April to discuss various fisheries topics. The meetings will be held in person and live-streamed on YouTube.

The N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries will hold three outreach meetings in the coming weeks to talk with charter/for-hire fishing owners and operators.

Sixty-nine Marine Fisheries Commission rules go into effect today, including rules pertaining to marking requirements for commercial pots and trotlines; license and permit suspensions and revocations; shellfish and crustacea management and processing; recordkeeping requirements and tournament licenses; and importation permits. The rules were amended and/or readopted under a state mandated periodic review schedule.

The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Energy, Mineral, and Land Resources (DEMLR) has issued a permit for the Timbermill Wind, LLC, proposal to construct, operate and decommission an onshore wind energy facility generating as many as 189 megawatts in Chowan County.

The N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries will hold a public hearing on proposed shellfish leases in Dare County at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 12. The hearing will be held in-person at the Dare County Government Center, Commissioner Boardroom, 954 Marshall C. Collins Drive, Manteo and by WebEx.

The N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries announced today that the spring 2023 recreational striped bass season in the Albemarle Sound Management Area will close at 11:59 P.M., Sunday Mar. 12, 2023. Preliminary estimates of recreational striped bass harvest indicate the spring harvest allocation for these waters has been met.

The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ)’s Division of Water Resources (DWR) will hold a public hearing April 27, 2023, on a proposed amendment to its 15A NCAC 02B .0305 rule, including a High Quality Waters (HQW) reclassification for four streams and an Outstanding Resource Waters (ORW) reclassification for seven streams in the Watauga River Basin. 

The N.C. Marine Fisheries Commission took a stand with its fellow state environmental commissions for improved water quality in North Carolina.

Today, Governor Roy Cooper announced $462.9 million in funding for 249 infrastructure projects in 80 communities statewide that will strengthen North Carolina’s drinking water, wastewater and stormwater systems.
