Drought conditions continued to improve across North Carolina due to heavy rains. The North Carolina Drought Management Advisory Council (DMAC) removed the severe drought (D2) classification for all of western North Carolina – with the exception of parts of Cherokee and Clay counties.
The N.C. Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Water Resources is now accepting applications for coastal storm recovery projects such as ocean beach renourishment or artificial dunes.

The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Water Resources will hold a public hearing at 6 p.m. Feb. 5 at North Henderson High School to receive public comments on the draft permit for the proposed Clear Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant in Hendersonville.
The five advisory committees of the N.C. Marine Fisheries Commission will meet in January to discuss various fisheries topics. The meetings will be held in person and livestreamed on YouTube.
The N.C. Coastal Habitat Protection Plan Steering Committee will meet from 10 a.m. to noon on Jan. 12 by web conference.

Coastal Resources Commission (CRC) will hold public hearings Jan. 9-Jan. 10, 2024, to receive comment on the following temporary rules: 07H .0507, .0508, .0509, 07I .0702, 07J .0203, .0204, .0206, .0207, .0208, 07M .0401, .0402, .0403, .0701, .0703, .0704 and .1101. Division of Coastal Management staff will facilitate the hearings, which will be held at the below dates and locations. All hearings will be held in-person and begin at 1 p.m., with registration beginning at 12:30 p.m.
