Department of Transportation’s biannual statewide roadside litter removal initiative. Community Event - Raleigh Free community event with eco-friendly vendors, live music, games, and activities for all ages. Community Event - Carrboro Community event that brings people together for an afternoon of eco-friendly activities and outdoor fun. Community Event - Greensboro City of Greensboro’s Earth Day celebration at Keeley Park on April 26, 2025, 1-4 pm. Community Event - Winston-Salem The Piedmont Earth Day Fair takes place on Saturday, April 26 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds. DEQ Stories & Environmental Education Resources Tracking Water Quality Where Fresh and Saltwater Meet Jill Paxson and the DWR Estuarine Monitoring Team cover 300 nautical miles monthly, sampling waterways from the Chowan River to the Pamlico Sound. They also respond to algal blooms, fish kills, and recently, a clam kill. Asheville Regional Offices launches water quality monitoring after Hurricane Helene A water quality sampling effort launched in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene helped NCDEQ Division of Water Resources staff identify potential sources of contamination. Biologists Release Preliminary Findings on Helene’s Impact on Waterway Insects A preliminary assessment found most western NC waterways maintained insect diversity and abundance after Hurricane Helene, though some showed declines.
