Assessment Grant
NC DEQ Brownfields Redevelopment Section Awarded a $2MM MARC Grant
*Thanks to RTI International for this map of our target areas!
In Spring 2022, EPA awarded the DEQ Brownfields Redevelopment Section with a $2 million MARC grant to complete site assessments in three historically disadvantaged areas of the state. DEQ will use these grant funds for environmental assessments, reuse planning, community engagement, and grant management.
Five priority sites were identified in the grant application. Other sites will be selected through staff outreach to communities in the identified regions. To learn more and find out if your site qualifies for an assessment, please contact the grant coordinator Joselyn Harriger or by phone at 980-297-4623.
Throughout the five-year grant cycle (closeout by September 2027), the DEQ Brownfields Redevelopment Section will work with our partner communities and contractors to complete these tasks and encourage productive reuse within disadvantaged communities.
In January 2023, we completed the procurement process and selected our three contractors: Hart & Hickman, Terracon and WSP! We're excited to have their expertise in both EPA and the NC Brownfields Redevelopment Section on the team.
Providing access to grant related documents is a priority. All grant related work is saved on the Laserfiche WebLink repository. To access completed MARC Grant files, go to the Laserfiche WebLink and type in 000MARC in the "Search in WebLink" search bar.
Types of documents that will be stored here include:
- DEQ Grant Work Plan
- Community Involvement Plan
- Stakeholder meeting presentation slides
- Stakeholder meeting recordings (if available, not all are recorded)
- Site specific project files
Part of our outreach efforts include preparation of annual newsletters! These newsletters are targeted to municipalities, regional councils of government, and other entities interested in Brownfields redevelopment across NC! Click the links below to view recent issues.
